Dear Auxiliary Members and friends of the Carmelites,

In this issue I would like to share some news about what the Auxiliary is doing, and how we may be able to help the Sisters this year.

Our faithful Board of Directors for the Auxiliary is meeting via Zoom this coming Sunday. It is the time of year when Board members leave or sign on. Our very faithful Board member Kathy Kitchura is leaving the Board, since she has served since the Auxiliary really got started in 2016. We all will miss her good advice, although I know she will always be a faithful member of the Auxiliary. Thank you Kathy for your generous support of time, talent and treasure. God reward you!

If any one else in our Auxiliary would like to serve on the Board, please let me know. We can always use more input of ideas.

Lent has now begun and you probably have all your Lenten books and prayers organized for this season. However if you have room for one more book, I would like to recommend one written by the brother of one of our own Carmelite Sisters. Sister Victoria Maria has a brother named Joseph Hollcraft, and he has just published a wonderful book called, Unleashing the Power of Intercessory Prayer. In the description it says, “Praying for others is a beautiful way of thinking, acting, and living like Christ.” And considering that his sister is a contemplative Carmelite, who would know more about intercessory prayer? Published by Sophia Institute Press, and with a foreword by Dan Burke, the founder of Avila Institute, this rather short book (160 pages) can add to your Lenten reflections in a big way. It’s available on amazon.com, and probably through our own local Catholic bookstore, Easter’s. Pick up a copy today.

At our Sunday Zoom meeting, we will be discussing fund-raising ideas amidst a pandemic. Some ideas that have come forward include online auctions, meals-to-go, and restaurant dinner sales where we keep a portion of the profits for the Sisters. If you have ideas you can send them to me. And when you are thinking of alms-giving, please remember the Sisters. The world needs more prayer, and that’s all they do. Let’s support them especially during Lent! You’ll notice that they are not included in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, nor are they on the “Big Day of Giving” (whenever that is!). But they ALWAYS need and appreciate our support. Let’s think of them first.

I wish you a Lenten season that is filled with grace and peace.

In Christ,

Patty MacEgan
