Newsletter #40 - April 2025

Dear friends of M.A.R.Y. Auxiliary,

Lenten greetings from your Sisters in Georgetown!  It has been awhile since we wrote to you, so it’s time to “curl up at the keyboard” and get creative!

It’s almost hard to feel as if it is Lent now.  In February, we celebrated four birthdays, and then March came with three more.  When we discovered that our diocese celebrates St. Patrick as a Solemnity, we had to do so also, which led right into St. Joseph (another Solemnity) a couple of days later.  Not that life in Carmel is one long party, but some times are more festive than others!

We’re grateful for our new postulant Elise, who joined our community on the first Sunday of Advent.  She is catching on very well and fitting in with our life.  What a difference just one more person makes with sharing the workload!

Our plans for Spring planting are a little scaled-back this year.  Our attention is directed toward some roof repair (trivia question: do you know how many roofs we have, between the monastery and the outer buildings?) and everlasting plumbing repairs.  (Answer to trivia question: neither do we!  But it’s a lot!)

Last Fall, we did manage to attend to some surface repair of Fox Run Road, especially one corner that had become particularly rutted and broken.  Our neighbors came out to volunteer their time and labor, resulting in a much improved and safer road for all who live here or visit.

We’ll be celebrating Sister Victoria Maria’s Silver Jubilee of profession this August.  Invitations will be mailed after Easter.  Time has flown so quickly- it’s hard to realize that the postulant of yesterday is the jubilarian of tomorrow.  (Hang in there, Elise!)  Anniversaries serve to enhance our gratitude for this call to Carmelite life, and our gratitude to all of you who help us to keep on living it.  Where would we be without our Auxiliary?

We promise our prayers, as always, having a Mass offered for you every month, and remembering you too in our private prayers.  Please pray for us too, that we are able to continue serving the Church and the diocese as God wills.  Easter is around the corner, with the glad song of Resurrection bursting forth.  Let us sing it together as we thank God for His many graces.

–Your grateful Carmelite Nuns of Georgetown

Auxiliary News

Hello after so many months of illness and struggle! I promise to do better on sending these newsletters quarterly this year. There is a LOT going on!

SAVE THE DATE!

First, we have delayed the Fundraiser dinner this year. It was going to be in May, but we had to delay it until AUGUST 23. The theme will still be “Mary, Our Mother”.  Please mark your calendars now for Dinner on August 23 at St. Clare Church in Roseville. The food is always delicious, the auction has been known to have some tremendous bargains and beautiful works of art, and the raffle is always fun. Wait til you see our quilt this year!!!! The theme of Mary, Our Mother is reflected in perhaps the most beautiful quilt we have ever made!

If you can help us get a date at your parish to come and sell raffle tickets for the quilt and advertise the luncheon,  please call me or email me through our website.

If you have new items to donate for the raffle, please call Henry Luckie and he will come pick it up from you. Newly purchased, or hand-made items for the raffle only, please. To contact Henry, please email us at carmelitehelpers@gmail.com

Now I have to apologize to someone. A lady has generously volunteered to help us with publicity, but I have lost her name! Please, if you are that special someone, can you please call me? I’m so sorry to have misplaced your name and number.

I have an important announcement to make at the dinner in August: something you won’t want to miss! More later.

In Christ,

Patty
